October is breast cancer awareness month. Like many, I have family and friends who have battled breast cancer. Some win the battle but too many have lost. On October 14th and 15th I will take part in my 3rd AVON39 mile walk. Last year my daughter joined me in Washington DC and this year I will be in NYC. 39 miles is hard. It is a personal challenge I set when I turned 55. To do 5 AVON39 cities before I turn 60. I am honored by the support financially and cheering I have received! If we are connected on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, follow my journey.
On October 19th, the NW Houston Business Professional Women network will hold their annual luncheon and fundraiser to support The Rose. The Rose reduces deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screening, diagnostics, and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. The Rose addresses any barrier that might keep a woman from caring for her own needs. Studies show women often put personal needs on hold while tending to the needs of others. Many women cite cost and lack of access as reasons they delay preventive services. Yet, early detection mammography screenings are the most powerful weapons in the fight against breast cancer – which is 98% curable when detected early. For the woman who puts everyone else ahead of her own care.
